One Person Seriously Injured After Two Big Rigs Collide on Interstate 80 in El Cerrito
1 Airlifted After El Cerrito Big Rig Crash on I-80
El Cerrito, California: One person was airlifted to the hospital after two big rigs collided early Tuesday morning in El Cerrito, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wreck happened at around 1:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80 east of the Potrero Avenue exit.
Two semi-trucks collided for an unknown reason and got stuck together.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and requested an air ambulance to airlift one seriously injured person to the hospital.
It took crews several hours to clear the scene. Multiple westbound lanes remained closed during that period.
Sugar was also leaking out of one of the big rig’s container.
As of 6 a.m., three lanes were still blocked. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternatives like Richmond Parkway to I-580 or streets like San Pablo Avenue.
