1 Airlifted After Van, Agricultural Truck Collide on Vasco Road in Brentwood

Brentwood, California: One person was hospitalized in critical condition after a van collided with an agricultural truck Wednesday morning in Brentwood, authorities said.

The wreck occurred around 11 a.m. on Vasco Road near Camino Diablo.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an agricultural tractor trailer’s clutch went out, and the truck started coasting backwards.

The driver of a van failed to notice the truck was coasting backwards, and as he attempted to correct himself by pulling into the breakdown lane off to the side, he misjudged the available space and drove straight into the back of the truck, crashing into the driver’s side.

First responders found the driver conscious but trapped. He was freed and airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The driver was listed in critical condition.

Vasco Road was shut down following the accident.
