1 Killed in Big Rig Accident at Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue

Gilroy, California – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly collision that killed a 35-year-old male driver on Thursday afternoon in Gilroy.

The crash occurred at about 1:55 p.m. at Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue.

Per the CHP officials, 45-year-old Daniel Arendt was heading eastbound in a big rig in the fast lane approaching the Live Oak Avenue junction and was preparing to make a left turn onto northbound Monterey Road.

In the meantime, a Honda was heading southbound on Monterey Road driving towards the junction.

The Honda driver did not stop at the red light and drove through the junction crashing into the semi-truck.

The Honda then swerved into the northbound lanes of Monterey Road, and it slammed head-on into a northbound Jeep operated by Leonel Orozco, 47. The two cars rolled over following the crash.

The debris from the crash hit a Ford driven by Ricky Reyna, 37.

The 35-year-old male Honda driver died in the crash.

Orozco sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital,
