Oakland, California: A woman died, and two others were hospitalized after a traffic collision that happened Wednesday morning in Oakland.

Oakland police said the wreck was reported just before 11 a.m. at 16th Street and Mandela Parkway.

A 34-year-old Oakland man was driving a Ford Fusion eastbound on 16th Street at a high rate of speed when he collided with a Honda sedan heading northbound on Mandela Parkway.

Both vehicles ended up on a sidewalk, striking at least one parked car.

The woman driving the Honda died at the scene. Her passenger, a 24-year-old Oakland woman, was hospitalized in unknown condition.

The Oakland man was also hospitalized for his injuries. Police said he was involved in a hit-and-run collision a few blocks away moments before the deadly crash. The car he was driving was also reported stolen earlier that day in Oakland.

Police said when the driver is released from the hospital, he is expected to be arrested and booked into the Alameda County Jail on various charges, including vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of drugs, hit-and-run, and vehicle theft.
