1 Killed, Another Injured in Pedestrian Accident in Gardena
Gardena, California: A child died, and a woman was hospitalized after they were struck by a car as they crossed a street in Gardena, authorities said.
The incident was reported to police around 10:30 a.m. at Marine Avenue and Budlong Avenue.
Police said a car was traveling eastbound on Marine, approaching Budlong. The driver turned north onto Budlong and hit a 5-year-old boy and his grandmother who were walking in a crosswalk.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the driver involved fled the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
