1 Killed, Another Seriously Injured in National City Crash

National City, California: A man died, and another was seriously injured in a traffic collision that happened Saturday morning near National City, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at around 9:08 a.m. on Interstate 805 near the 43rd Street off-ramp.

Multiple vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident.

Authorities said during the crash, a small work truck occupied by two men was traveling south on I-805 when it collided with a large commercial flatbed truck carrying a Catapiller bulldozer tractor.

The smaller truck was sent off the freeway by the force of the impact to the right shoulder, where it struck a light pole. The truck rolled down the embankment to the southbound 43rd Street on-ramp to the southbound I-805, ejecting both men.

The larger truck did not stop.

It was unclear how the other vehicles were involved.

One man died at the scene, and the other was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
