1 Killed, at least 3 Injured in Oceanside Car Accident
Oceanside, California: One person died, and at least three others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident involving a speeding driver that occurred Wednesday night in Oceanside.
The California Highway Patrol said the pileup was reported at about 9:20 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5, north of State Route 78.
According to investigators, a red sedan was, for an unknown reason, parked on the side of the road when a red Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed passed on the right shoulder and crashed into the sedan.
The impact sent the red sedan into the slow lane, where it collided with an 18-wheeler.
Officers said the driver of the Corvette got out of the car and ran up a nearby hill.
The officers located the driver and arrested him.
A passenger in the red sedan died at the scene.
At least three others sustained unspecified injuries.
Investigators shut down the right lanes of northbound I-5 at SR-78 and the westbound SR-78 to northbound I-5 connector ramp as they worked the scene.
