1 Killed in Hanford Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 43

Hanford, California: A 25-year-old Fresno man died Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision that happened on Highway 43 near Hanford.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the pileup occurred just before 1 p.m. just north of Grangeville Boulevard.

The collision involved a 2014 Nissan, a 2012 Peterbilt, and a 2013 Chevrolet.

CHP said a Fresno man was driving the Nissan northbound on the highway at an unknown speed.

At the same time, a Corcoran man was driving the Peterbilt southbound at about 50 mph, and a Laton man was driving the Chevy southbound behind the Peterbilt.

As the Nissan approached the Peterbilt, the driver allowed the car to veer to the right onto the dirt shoulder. The Fresno man corrected the vehicle to the left, then crossed from the northbound side and into the southbound side and sideswiped the Peterbilt.

The Nissan continued northbound in the southbound lane and turned in a clockwise motion directly into the path of the Chevy.

The Fresno man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was unclear if the drivers of the Peterbilt and the Chevy were injured.

Investigators did not immediately determine the factors that contributed to the collision.
