Byron, California – At least one person died in a collision involving a semi-truck early Monday morning in Byron, Contra Costa.
At around 4:19 a.m., the Contra Costa County Fire Department responded to the scene of a traffic collision on Vasco Road near Camino Diablo.
A big rig and a sedan collided head-on on the highway in unclear circumstances. The firefighters who responded to the incident had to extricate the people who were trapped in the vehicles.
One person was pronounced dead at the accident scene by the County Coroner.
The victim was not publicly identified pending the notification of the next of kin.
Both directions of Vasco Road were temporarily closed.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
