1 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 198 in Kings County

Kings County, California – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision involving a wrong-way driver on Sunday morning in Kings County.

The accident was reported around 2 a.m. on Highway 198, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 24-year-old man was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway and collided head-on with a Ford F-250 driven by 37-year-old David Barajas and a Kia Soul driven by 63-year-old Steven Mahoney.

The Toyota caught fire after the collision, killing the unidentified driver.

Barajas was airlifted to the hospital while his two passengers were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Mahoney and his passenger were hospitalized with minor injuries.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
