Woman Dies, 9 Hospitalized After Traffic Collision near 67th Avenue and Coolidge Street
1 Killed, Multiple Injured in Phoenix Multi-Car Crash
Phoenix, California: 68-year-old Martha Alicia Cervantes Inzunza died, and nine others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision that happened Saturday afternoon in west Phoenix.
Phoenix police and firefighters responded to the scene near 67th Avenue and Coolidge Street after receiving reports of the collision at around 12:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation showed that the incident occurred when three vehicles were heading northbound on 67th, and one of the drivers attempted to pass another car in an unsafe manner.
The driver ended up hitting the two other northbound cars.
The vehicle at fault and one of the other cars they hit veered into the southbound traffic and collided with two other cars heading southbound.
A total of ten people were taken to various hospitals by responding emergency personnel.
Martha Inzunza was a passenger in one of the southbound cars and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
One adult remained in extremely critical condition.
An adolescent boy and two adults were listed in critical condition.
Five other adults were in stable condition.
All the hospitalized victims were expected to survive, according to police.
Intoxication and speed are being investigated as contributing factors.
