13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Escondido Crash Identified

Escondido, California: The family of the 13-year-old boy who died in a suspected DUI collision in Escondido identified him as Rodrigo Tapia Junior.

The crash took place around 10 p.m. at North Broadway and Country Club Lane.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident.

A police officer arrived at the scene first and offered life-saving measures to one person who was critically injured before Escondido Fire paramedics responded and took over.

The paramedics transported Tapia Jr. to Palomar Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

18-year-old Jasime Tapia was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment of internal bleeding. She is expected to be OK.

An adult male was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

All the victims are Escondido residents.

Alexander Tito Oroz, 20, was driving one of the cars and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was transported to Tri-City Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver was expected to be booked into Vista jail when released from the hospital for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
