San Diego, California: Two children were killed, and their mother and her friend were hospitalized with severe injuries after a suspect being pursued by police crashed into their vehicle Friday evening in the Mountain View neighborhood of San Diego.

San Diego police said they started chasing a BMW at around 6:14 p.m. at 32nd Street and Oceanview Boulevard in Logan Heights, and the suspect led the officers to southbound Interstate 805.

The suspect, a 20-year-old man, exited the freeway and onto 43rd Street.

The BMW then hit a Honda sedan at around 6:19 p.m., causing the Honda to travel down an embankment and hit a tree, catching fire.

A three-year-old boy and an eight-year-old boy in the Honda were taken to the hospital, where they both died.

Their 25-year-old mother and her 29-year-old friend were hospitalized with serious injuries.

The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the BMW, fled the scene on foot. He was later arrested.
