2 Cyclists Killed After Being Hit by Lumber Hanging Off Truck in Napa County

Napa County, California: Two cyclists died after they were hit by lumber that shifted on a truck’s flatbed Tuesday morning in Napa County.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened just before noon on the 5300 block of the roadway.

Two bicyclists and a 2018 Freightliner flatbed truck ferrying a load of lumber were traveling north on the roadway. As the truck was passing the riders, the load of lumber shifted and hit the cyclists.

One bicyclist, a man in his 50s, died from his injuries at the scene. The other rider, a woman in her 40s, was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Porfirio Sanchez of Vallejo was driving the truck, which is owned by Central Valley Builders. He was not injured.

Authorities are investigating the collision.
