Bakersfield, California – The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a crash involving a patrol vehicle on Sunday morning in Bakersfield.

The deadly collision happened at about 5:40 a.m. on October 13, at Niles Street and Kern Street.

Authorities said a car was heading northbound when it did not stop for the stop sign at the junction and collided head with a westbound patrol vehicle.

The impact of the crash threw the driver from the vehicle, and they were declared dead at the crash site.

A woman, who was a front passenger of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries while receiving treatment at a local medical center.

A 2-year-old child riding in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The officers in the patrol vehicle sustained minor to moderate degree injuries.

Officers believed alcohol and drugs contributed to the crash.
