2 Men Injured in Head-On Collision on 118 Freeway in Ventura
2 Hospitalized After Ventura Crash Involving Semi-Truck
Ventura, California: Two men were injured in a head-on collision that happened Tuesday evening on 118 Freeway in Ventura.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck involved a 2007 Lexus LS and a semi-truck and happened at around 5:30 p.m. near Mesa School Road.
Rusell James Young Jr., of Santa Barbara, was driving the Lexus when, for unknown reasons, the car collided head-on with the eastbound semi-truck driven by Aldo Jose Desantiago of Tarzana.
Young got trapped in his vehicle, which was blocking both highway lanes.
Responding CHP officers offered help to the trapped driver and the big rig driver, who was lying down in a dirt road south of the highway before firefighters and medical personnel arrived.
Desantiago was helped out of his semi-truck by Good Samaritans.
The Ventura County Fire Department arrived and freed Young from his car.
The firefighters requested a helicopter to airlift Young to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Desantiago was transported by ground ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
CHP officers are investigating the collision but do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.
