2 Injured After Car Rear-Ends Tractor-Trailer in Santa Maria

Santa Maria, California: Two people were hospitalized after a car crashed into the rear of a big rig early Friday morning on Highway 101 in Santa Maria, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision took place just after 4 a.m. near the northbound Donovan Road off-ramp.

Authorities said a Nissan Infiniti occupied by the driver and a passenger slammed into the rear end of a big rig ferrying cooking oil under unclear circumstances.

CHP officers, Santa Maria firefighters, and American Medical Response personnel responded to the scene.

The Infiniti’s driver and passenger were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. One of the victims had major injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
