2 Killed, 2 Hurt in Crash on Highway 101 near Moorpark
Moorpark, California: Two people died, and two others were injured in a rollover collision involving a parked big rig that happened Thursday morning near Moorpark.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Wendy Drive in Newbury Park.
According to investigators, a 2016 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old Pico Rivera man with three passengers, including a 20-year-old Castaic man, was driving in the left lane of the Wendy Drive exit when it reportedly failed to negotiate a turn and continued straight onto the shoulder, where a big rig was parked.
The Honda struck the semi-truck, continued out of control on the right shoulder, and hit a large boulder, then overturned. The car had prior to the crash, been traveling at a high rate of speed.
At least two occupants were ejected from the Honda. One of them was pinned underneath the vehicle.
Two of those thrown from the car, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. They are believed to be around 19 or 20.
The other two occupants were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for treatment. The patients are expected to survive.
