2 Killed in Douglas County Crash on Highway 42

Douglas County, Ore. – Two people were killed in a collision involving a semi-truck on Tuesday afternoon in Douglas County.

The double-fatal crash happened on Highway 42 near milepost 75 at around 1:22 p.m., according to the Oregon State Police.

Authorities say a Jeep Liberty operated by 19-year-old Bronwyn Gnagy, of Winston, was traveling eastbound on Highway 42 when it abruptly stopped in the left lane as a Freightliner tanker truck merged into the center turn lane.

A bunked Mack log truck, operated by 28-year-old Christopher P. Morgan, of Roseburg, was traveling behind the Jeep Liberty.

The log truck braked and was rear-ended by the Jeep Liberty.

Two passengers in the Jeep, 31-year-old Tabitha M. Romans of Cottage Grove and 20-year-old Brandon Gobershock of Winston were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Jeep driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mack truck was unhurt.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
