2 Killed in Fiery Collision on Interstate 5 in Merced County Identified

Merced County, California: The Merced County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office identified the two people who died in a fiery collision that happened last month in Merced County.

18-year-old Kristopher Rose from Pleasant Hill and 58-year-old Juan Jose Cosio Gomez from San Jose were killed in the crash.

The accident took place around 12:51 a.m. October 30 on Interstate 5 north of Volta Road.

Investigators said a 2008 Honda Accord was traveling northbound when, for an unknown reason, it veered across the dirt median and into the southbound lanes.

The Honda collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Isuzu box truck.

Both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lanes of I-5, where they caught fire.

Firefighters responded to the scene and put out the fire.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Southbound I-5 was closed for more than an hour following the crash.
