Derrick Shaw and Vera Hampton Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision at 73rd Avenue and Holly Street
2 Killed in Oakland Car Crash Involving Stolen Car Identified
Oakland, California: The Alameda County Coroner Office identified the two people who died in a hit-and-run collision Sunday in Oakland.
The two were 64-year-old Derrick Shaw of Richmond, and 67-year-old Vera Hampton of Antioch.
Oakland police said the collision occurred around 10 a.m. at 73rd Avenue and Holly Street.
Shaw was driving a car south on 73rd with Hampton and a 48-year-old Richmond man as his passengers.
Shaw attempted to make a left turn onto Holly when his car was hit on the passenger side by a Lexus speeding north on 73rd. The Lexus had reportedly been stolen in Daly City.
Shaw’s vehicle rolled over and hit a parked vehicle.
Shaw and Hampton died in the crash. The Richmond man was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.
Police said the 25-year-old Oakland man driving the stolen Lexus fled the scene on foot. Police later arrested him.
