James Hartley and Celeste Young Killed in Fiery Collision on State Route 299 in Red Bluff
2 Killed in Red Bluff Head-On Crash Identified
Red Bluff, California: Authorities identified the two drivers who died Saturday in a fiery head-on collision as 54-year-old James Hartley and 67-year-old Celeste Young.
The crash was reported at around 2:55 p.m. on State Route 299, south of Champlin Slough.
According to investigators, Young was driving a BMW 428i, and Hartley was behind the wheel of a Ford Ranger.
Officers said, for an unknown reason, Hartley allowed his vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with the BMW.
One of the vehicles caught fire, but firefighters responded and extinguished the flames.
Young and Hartley were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were residents of Los Molinos.
A passenger in the BMW was taken to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.
The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Red Bluff.

Red Bluff, California (June 11, 2023) – Two people died following a fiery head-on collision on Saturday in Red Bluff.
At around 2:55 in the afternoon, the California Highway Patrol dispatch received reports of a traffic collision on Highway 99, just south of Los Molinos.
Two vehicles are reported to have collided head-on in unclear circumstances.
One of the cars caught fire after the collision and was extinguished by the CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit firefighters.
Authorities say two people died in the crash.
