2 Killed in Riverside Car Accident on Wood Road near Van Buren Boulevard

Riverside, California – Two people died in a collision that occurred early Saturday morning in Riverside.

According to the Riverside Police Department, the accident happened around 5:40 a.m. on Wood Road near Van Buren Boulevard.

A gray Lexus was traveling northbound on Wood Road when the driver ran a red light at Van Buren Boulevard and struck a blue Scion traveling westbound.

The Lexus continued northbound and struck a wooden electrical pole and a tree before bursting into flames.

Riverside Fire Department crews put out the flames and pronounced the 17-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old female passenger dead at the scene. The 17-year-old male passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and lone passenger of the Scion were uninjured in the crash.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
