2 Men Killed in Salinas Wrong-Way Crash Identified

Salinas, California: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the two drivers who died in a wrong-way collision that happened Tuesday night in Salinas.

The two were Edgar Guzman-Tenangueno, 30, of Marina, and Jose Mendoza-Menjivar, 21, from Salinas.

Police said Guzman-Tenangueno was driving a 2001 Chrysler Sebring east on Blanco Road when, for an unknown reason, he began to drive the wrong way in the westbound lane.

The vehicle then collided head-on with a 2021 silver Honda Civic driven by Mendoza-Menjivar.

First responders found both vehicles with heavy crash damage. The Civic was stuck in a ditch.

A 21-year-old Salinas woman riding as a passenger in the Civic was taken to Natividad Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Authorities are yet to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role.

An investigation is ongoing.
