2 People Die in Successive Crashes on Highway 118 in Simi Valley

Simi Valley, California: Two people died in two successive collisions that happened Sunday morning on Highway 118 in Simi Valley, authorities said.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. on westbound Highway 118 near Rocky Peak Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old Canoga Park woman was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima on the highway when she crashed into the guard rail on the right shoulder. Her car spun across the westbound lanes and hit the center median.

The driver got out of the vehicle and stood in one of the lanes when she was hit by a 2020 Triumph motorcycle.

The Canoga Park woman died in the crash.

The motorcyclist, identified as a 54-year-old Simi Valley man, was thrown from his bike and also died in the accident.

Investigators closed the left three lanes of westbound Highway 118 for about four hours.
