2 Suffer Major Injuries in Oakdale Car Crash
Oakland, California: A suspected drunk driver and a speeding driver were hospitalized Monday night after their vehicles collided on Highway 108/120 in Oakdale, the California Highway Patrol said.
The wreck occurred at about 9:20 p.m. at Atlas Road.
Authorities said 19-year-old Brian Valenzuela was driving a Ford Mustang in excess of 100 mph westbound on the highway when 38-year-old Paul Skifter attempted to turn left onto Atlas Road from eastbound Highway 108 in his Tesla.
Valenzuela veered to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision but ended up hitting the right front of the Tesla.
Both drivers sustained major injuries in the crash. Emergency personnel transported both victims to the hospital for treatment.
Officers evaluated the drivers at the hospital for their sobriety and arrested Skifter on suspicion of driving while impaired.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
