2 Hospitalized with Burn Injuries After Natural Gas Explosion at Diamond Stadium in Lake Elsinore
2 Workers Burned in Gas Explosion at Lake Elsinore Diamond
Lake Elsinore, California: Two contracted workers were burnt during a Lake Elsinore Diamond gas explosion that happened Friday afternoon, the Riverside County/Cal Fire reported.
At around 4:20 p.m., a natural gas line burst inside the locker room of the home team at the Lake Elsinore Diamond, home of the Lake Elsinore Storm, a Single-A minor league affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
Two maintenance workers at the crash scene during the explosion sustained moderate burns to various body parts.
Emergency personnel requested an air ambulance to transport the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment, but the plan was canceled after it was determined that transport by ground ambulance would be faster.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately determined.
The Storm was scheduled to face the Inland Empire 66ers Friday evening.
The stadium was evacuated as a precaution, and both Friday and Saturday’s games postponed until further notice.
