3 Deputies Injured in Suspected DUI Accident in Riverside

Riverside, California: Three deputies were injured, and a DUI suspect was arrested after a traffic collision that happened Thursday morning at an intersection in Riverside.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 9:25 a.m. at Victoria and La Sierra avenues.

Authorities said three deputies were heading to a training exercise in one of the law enforcer’s personal 2016 Toyota Sienna caravan.

The Toyota entered the intersection on a green light southbound on La Sierra.

At the same time, 28-year-old Samuel Ibrahim Shearer of Riverside was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westbound on Victoria Avenue. The man entered the intersection against a red light and crashed into the Toyota’s driver’s side.

The pickup truck got disabled in the crash, and Shearer did not attempt to flee. The officers detained him without incident and determined he showed signs of intoxication.

Emergency personnel responded and offered medical aid to the deputies for their minor to major injuries.

Shearer sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. He was booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury. On Friday morning, the suspect posted a $50,000 bond and was released.

CHP is investigating the collision.
