3 Injured in Multi-Car Pileup on I-215 in Perris

Perris, California: Three people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle pileup that happened Monday afternoon on Interstate 215 in Perris.

The California Highway Patrol said the collision involved six vehicles around 4:12 p.m. in the southbound lanes at Highway 74.

Investigators said the vehicles collided in the fast lane and the No. 2 lane. One of the cars overturned and ended up facing the wrong way of traffic.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department responded to the scene.

The firefighters used extrication equipment to free one person who was trapped in the overturned car. The victim sustained minor to moderate injuries. The patient, together with two others who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, were taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.

Southbound I-215 was shut down following the collision but traffic was moving slowly through the area.
