3 Killed in Fortuna Crash on Highway 101 near Metropolitan Road

Fortuna, California – The California Highway Patrol has disclosed the identities of three people who died in a car crash last month in Fortuna.

The accident was reported around 10:37 p.m. on January 21, on Highway 101 near Metropolitan Road.

55-year-old James Baker, of Arcata, was driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway and collided head-on with a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 driven by Christina Freitas, 42, of Rio Dell.

Both vehicles caught fire after the collision.

Baker and Freitas were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Neveah Beyer, 9, of Rio Dell, was riding in one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
