3 Killed in Head-On Collision on SR-26 in Adams County

Adams County, Washington: Three people died, and one other was hospitalized after a head-on collision that happened Friday afternoon on State Route 26 about four miles west of Hatton.

Troopers said the wreck occurred at about 1:30 p.m. near Williams Road.

The crash transpired when a small pickup truck traveling eastbound crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an SUV headed westbound.

The pickup truck caught fire. A trooper arrived at the scene and attempted to free the driver of the pickup but was unable because the fire became intense.

Both the driver and passenger of the pickup died in the crash. They were identified as Mark R. Nieman, 53, and Natasha Neiman, 24, both from Des Moines.

A passenger in the SUV also died in the collision. She was identified as 68-year-old Diane Coughlin.

The SUV driver, 65-year-old James E. Coughlin, was taken to East Adams Rural Hospital in Ritzville.

WSP is investigating the collision.
