Three People Die, Three Others Injured in Shandon Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 46 near West Center Street
3 Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Highway 46 in Shandon
Shandon, California: Three people died and three others were hurt when a wrong-way driver crashed with two other cars Sunday night in Shandon.
The California Highway Patrol said the collision occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on Highway 46 near West Center Street.
According to authorities, 30-year-old Saundra Foutz from Paso Robles was driving a 2021 Mercedes heading westbound in the eastbound lanes when she collided head-on into an eastbound 2022 Honda. After the crash, another vehicle traveling eastbound behind the Honda was also involved in the crash.
The 24-year-old Cutler woman driving the Honda and two passengers, a 32-year-old woman from Sanger and a 27-year-old man from Reedley, were killed in the crash.
A third passenger in the Honda, identified as Carlos Quinonez from Orange Cove sustained major injuries.
The diver of the third vehicle, 38-year-old Jess Lopez, suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Foutz was found unconscious and was airlifted to a Fresno hospital for surgery. The wrong-way driver survived surgery and is now recovering.
No arrests have been made and police are yet to determine whether impairment was a factor in the crash.
