3 People Killed in DUI Collision on SR-89 in Coconino County

Coconino County, Arizona: Three people died in a DUI collision that happened Sunday afternoon in Coconino County, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported.

The two-vehicle crash was reported around 3:15 p.m. on southbound State Route 89 at milepost 492.

Investigators said a pickup truck was traveling northbound when, for an unknown reason, it went off the roadway onto the shoulder. The driver overcorrected to the left back onto the roadway and into the southbound traffic, where the vehicle collided with a southbound car.

Five people occupied the pickup truck at the time of the crash. Three of them died at the scene.

It was unclear if the other two occupants of the pickup truck and the occupants of the other vehicle were injured.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested by the FBI on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
