4 Hospitalized After Gas Leak at Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Wilmington
Wilmington, California: Four people were hospitalized after a gas leak at the Marathon Petroleum refinery Thursday morning in Wilmington, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The incident happened at about 6:39 p.m. on May 4 on East Coast Highway.
Firefighters responded to the refinery after receiving reports of the incident.
The firefighters rescued four men caught up in the leakage. One of the victims was helped using a rigid basket or a sketcher and lowered by a rope system to the ground.
A 40-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition, and three others – ages 26, 35, and 43 – in moderate condition.
The gas was reported to be hydrogen sulfide and butane.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the leak.
