2 LAFD Paramedics and 2 Civilians Injured in Broadside Collision at Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road
4, Including LAFD Paramedics, Hospitalized After Pacoima Crash
Pacoima, California: Four people, including two Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, were hospitalized after a traffic collision involving an LAFD Paramedic Rescue Ambulance and a civilian pickup truck early Sunday morning in Pacoima.
According to LAFD, the ambulance was responding to a medical emergency when, at around 12:35 a.m., the emergency vehicle was broadsided by a full-size pickup truck at Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road.
Two male occupants in the pickup got trapped in the severely damaged vehicle.
Two male LAFD paramedics were able to self-extricate from the wreckage of their Type I ambulance.
LAFD personnel responded and freed the occupants of the pickup. Both patients were taken to a regional trauma center in critical condition.
The two paramedics were transported to area hospitals with minor to moderate non-life-threatening injuries. They were listed in fair condition.
LAFD said another crew was sent to handle the initial medical emergency that the Paramedic team was responding to handle.
