5 Injured after Deputy Chasing Suspect Slams into SUV in San Jose

San Jose, California: Five people were injured in a car accident involving a patrol vehicle that happened Sunday afternoon near an intersection in San Jose.

Deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office were chasing a suspected car thief when one of their patrol vehicles collided with an SUV.

The deputies had attempted to stop a speeding motorist near Berryessa Road and North Capitol Avenue but the driver sped away, prompting a chase.

During the pursuit, one of the deputies’ patrol vehicles hit a Toyota SUV near King Road and Commodore Drive.

Four people in the SUV were hospitalized with injuries but are expected to be OK.

The deputy inside the patrol vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The suspect hit another patrol car during the chase. Deputies were able to stop the car by laying spikes on the roadway to disable the vehicle. The 24-year-old driver was arrested for evading a police officer and possessing stolen property.
