6 People Rescued After Construction Site Collapse in Glendale

Glendale, California: Six workers were rescued by firefighters after being trapped when a roof at a movie studio under construction collapsed Wednesday last week in Glendale, the Glendale Fire Department said.

Firefighters at a station near the construction site heard a loud rumble at around 11 a.m. on May 3 and quickly responded to the scene near the 1200 block of Glendale Avenue.

The firefighters found that the metal roof trusses of a movie studio under construction had collapsed for an unknown reason.

Three construction workers were trapped in a lift about 40 feet in the air, and three others were stuck under the rubble.

One of the workers trapped in the lift was rescued using a firetruck ladder, while the other two were hoisted off by a Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter.

The other three workers trapped on the ground were also rescued.

Five of the victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The sixth refused hospitalization.

Over 100 firefighters from Glendale, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Burbank, and San Marino fire departments participated in the rescue operation.

Authorities said about 70 workers were at the job site when the accident occurred.
