6 Work Crew Members Hit and Injured by DUI Driver on I-5 in Vancouver

Vancouver, Washington: Six road work crew members were hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver caused a crash in an area where the workers were repairing potholes on Interstate 5 in Vancouver.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the accident happened around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday.

Authorities said 33-year-old Yupada Fontung, from Portland, was driving a car in the area when she hit the guardrail next to the shoulder lane where two maintenance vehicles were parked.

The car then slammed into the back of one of the maintenance trucks, pushing it forward into the back of the second maintenance truck.

Six construction workers who were repairing potholes in the area were injured in the crash. The victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. All were later released to recover at their homes.

Police arrested Fontung on suspicion of driving while impaired.
