Madera County, California: Eight people died in a head-on collision involving a van and a pickup truck that happened early Friday morning in Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred just after 6 a.m. near Road 22 and Avenue 7.
A van and a pickup truck collided head-on for an unknown reason.
Seven occupants of the van and one in the pickup died in the crash.
The solo survivor in the van was hospitalized with major injuries.
Authorities said most of the people in the van were not wearing seatbelts.
