Andres Mercado Killed, Guadalupe Mercado Arrested after 60 Freeway Crash in Diamond Bar

Diamond Bar, California: 36-year-old Andres Mercado died, and 32-year-old Guadalupe Mercado was arrested after a crash involving two big rigs that happened Friday night in Diamond Bar.

The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway west of Phillips Ranch Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 32-year-old Guadalupe Mercado from Chino was driving a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 SUV recklessly when he veered onto the right shoulder, and the front of the car hit the left rear of the trailer of a parked big rig.

The force of the impact sent the SUV back into traffic lanes, where it collided with the rear of another big rig.

Andres died in the crash. He was the right front passenger of the SUV.

Guadalupe was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital with major injuries. He was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence. He remained under medical care.

An investigation is ongoing.
