Apple is reportedly testing prototypes of 5x telephoto lenses

Even though the Apple iPhone 14 series is still months away from being released, speculations about the iPhone 15 series have already begun to spread. For the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple is testing 5x telephoto lens prototypes and component samples. The final decision about the manufacturer is yet to be taken in May 2022.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, the information about the iPhone 15 Pro got obtained from analyst Jeff Pu. Apple has yet to reveal details about its next iPhone 14 series, which gets set to arrive later this year as the replacement to the iPhone 13 series. The smartphones can be expected to launch in 2023

The components will Apple featured in the “high-end variants of the 2023 iPhone lineup,” which should include the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max after authorized. Lante Optics is most likely to produce the lens, with 100 million pieces expected to be manufactured just for Apple.

Periscope lenses aren’t new, and Android smartphones already have them. However, Apple is trying them for the very first time which has created a buzz around. These lenses allow longer telephoto camera optics to be mounted horizontally to fit inside current compact phones.

While Android phones have been using the technology for a while, Apple has a habit of waiting until a feature gets perfected before releasing it.
