All Victims of Shandon Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 46 Identified
Authorities Identify 3 People Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 46 near Shandon
San Luis Obispo, California: Authorities identified the three people who died in a wrong-way crash that also left three others injured Sunday night near Shandon.
Those killed in the crash have been identified as 24-year-old Rosalinda Bucio from Cutler, 27-year-old Francisco J. Polinasainz from Reedley, and 32-year-old Yvette Guzman from Sanger.
Three others were injured in the collision, including, 30-year-old Saundra Foutz of Paso Robles, who was driving her car the wrong way, 28-year-old Carlos Quinonez from Orange Cove, and 38-year-old Jess Lopez from Bakersfield.
According to the California Highway Patrol, on July 28, around 10:28 p.m., Foutz was driving a 2021 Mercedes westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 46 when she collided head-on with a 2022 Honda traveling eastbound.
Bucio was driving the Honda at the time of the crash and had Polinasainz, Guzman, and Quinonez as her passengers.
Bucio, Polinasainz, and Guzman were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Quinonez was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Foutz also suffered major injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.
Investigators said after the initial impact, another Honda that was traveling behind the first Honda was also involved in the crash. The driver of the second Honda, Lopez, sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
