Authorities Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Loop 202 in Tempe

Tempe, Arizona: A man died, and a woman was hospitalized when their motorcycle was hit by a sedan Friday afternoon on Loop 202 in Tempe.

According to the Arizona Department of Safety, the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the Red Mountain Freeway just west of McClintock Drive.

Investigators said a sedan’s tire blew out and the driver swerved to avoid hitting a motorcycle but was unsuccessful.

The motorcycle rider, a man, and his passenger, a woman, were thrown from the bike into the eastbound lanes of the freeway.

The man died at a hospital, where he was rushed for treatment.

The woman sustained injuries not considered serious.

The driver of the sedan stopped and cooperated with officers.

Several lanes of the freeway were shut down during an investigation.
