Bicyclist Hit and Killed by Driver Fleeing Police in Suspected Stolen Car in Irwindale

Irwindale, California: A bicyclist died after being struck by a driver who was fleeing police in a stolen car Tuesday evening in Irwindale.

Police were notified about a suspect stealing a car from a Toyota dealership around 8:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of Peck Road in El Monte.

When El Monte police officers spotted the car, a possible Land Rover, they initiated a chase that lasted for about one minute before they called it off.

Several minutes later, the driver struck a man riding a bicycle near Arrow Highway and Rivergrade Road in Irwindale.

The cyclist died in the crash.

The suspect fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after. He was identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Calixto of Hanford.
