Rider Killed in Bakersfield Bicycle Accident at Wible Road and Planz Road
Bicyclist Hit and Killed by Semi-Truck in Bakersfield
Bakersfield, California: A cyclist died after being struck by a semi-truck Friday evening at an intersection in Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Police Department said the accident happened at about 6:58 p.m. at Wible Road and Planz Road.
Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a semi-truck. When the officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by the big rig while riding a bicycle.
The cyclist died from injuries sustained in the accident.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the semi-truck was traveling northbound on Wible and the bicyclist was heading west on Planz at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi-trailer did not stop after the crash but later returned after he was advised about the accident by an eyewitness.
Authorities said drugs, alcohol, and speed did not appear to be contributing factors.
