Big Rig Driver Suffers Critical Burn Injuries After Fiery Crash on 5 Fwy in Granada Hills
Granada Hills, California: One person was severely injured in a fiery collision involving two big rigs that happened Wednesday afternoon on 5 Freeway in Granada Hills.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place around 12:20 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Roxford Street.
CHP officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and blocked multiple traffic lanes.
The responders found two big rigs that had collided, causing the cab of one of the semi-trucks to catch fire.
Authorities said the driver of the burning big rig exited the vehicle and passing motorists stopped to help put out flames on his clothes and body. The victim was hospitalized with critical burn injuries.
About 80 firefighters took about 40 minutes to extinguish the flames that engulfed the big rig.
