Fresno, California – A 9-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street to school in central Fresno on Wednesday morning.

Police say the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at Michigan and Orchard avenues, in front of Birney Elementary.

The boy had been dropped off at school when he ran across the street and was struck by a car.

Police say the boy suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The involved driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.

Alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the crash.
