63-Year-Old Man Killed in Bakersfield Bicycle Accident on North Chester Avenue near McCord Avenue
Cyclist Hit and Injured by Vehicle Saturday Night in Bakersfield Dies at Hospital
Bakersfield, California: A 63-year-old man died of injuries he sustained Saturday night in a bicycle accident that happened in Bakersfield.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident took place around 9:14 p.m. on North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue.
Investigators said a 28-year-old man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet northbound on North Chester Avenue when a 63-year-old man rode a bicycle westbound across North Chester Avenue in the path of the car.
The driver of the vehicle could not avoid hitting the bicyclist, who was riding without lighting equipment.
The cyclist was taken to Kern Medical with moderate to major injuries. He later died on Sunday, May 26 while receiving treatment at the facility.
The driver of the car stopped and cooperated with authorities.
