Cyclist Hit and Killed by Car During Police Chase in South LA Identified

Los Angeles, California: The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the cyclist who died after he was hit by a driver being pursued by police Wednesday morning in South Los Angeles.

Jose Monsalve Rojas, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Hooper Avenue and 45th Street.

The collision occurred around 6:15 a.m. after a brief police chase by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Prior to the accident, LAPD Newton Area officers received a 911 call about a theft from a motor vehicle suspect who was being followed by the victim of that theft.

Officers responded to the area and attempted to stop the suspect car, but the driver kept going.

The suspect struck Rojas at the intersection and continued northbound, hitting several vehicles before overturning on Hooper just north of 45th Street.

The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by police officers.

No one else was injured in the accident.
