Cyclist Killed, Driver Arrested After Portland Crash

Portland, Oregon: A cyclist died after being hit by a vehicle in an area where shots were fired early Sunday morning in Portland.

According to authorities, the crash happened just before 3 a.m. near SE Belmont Street and SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a sedan.

When the officers arrived, they found the crash involved a bicyclist and a sedan.

The cyclist was at the scene with injuries, and his bicycle next to him.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The sedan involved was also at the scene but the driver fled the scene.

Community members of Buckman neighborhood near the intersection located the hit-and-run suspect and detained him.

Police arrested the man, identified as 22-year-old Shane McKeever, and booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center on first-degree manslaughter and reckless driving.

Authorities said some shots were fired at McKeever while he was still in the sedan but they are yet to find the person who did it. The authorities also did not find any shooting victims near the scene.
